HA TINH APPROVES FOUR WIND POWER PROJECTS WORTH OVER 7.8 TRILLION VND
VietnamPlus – 7 August 2026
Ha Tinh has approved four wind power projects with a combined investment of VND 7.81 trillion (USD 298 million) and total capacity of 225 MW. The four projects, Ky Anh 1, Ky Anh 2, Ky Anh 3 and Ky Anh 4, will comprise 45 wind turbines across Ky Van, Ky Lac, Ky Hoa and Ky Thuong communes. Together, they are expected to generate around 591.5 million kWh of electricity annually for the national grid. Investors will provide 20% of the required capital, while the remaining funding will be mobilised from domestic credit institutions. All four projects are expected to enter operation within 22 months of receiving land. The Ky Anh wind power cluster will diversify Ha Tinh’s energy mix, support emissions reduction and strengthen the province’s ambition to become a major clean energy hub in central Vietnam.
‘NO SHORTAGE OF CAPITAL, ONLY A SHORTAGE OF ATTRACTIVE GREEN PROJECTS’
VnExpress – 6 August 2026
Vietnam does not lack capital for the green transition, but many domestic projects are still not attractive enough to international investors. The country will need around USD 368 billion in additional investment by 2040 for climate adaptation and emissions reduction, with roughly half expected to come from private and international sources. Yet many projects suffer from weak financial structures, limited transparency and returns that do not match investors’ expectations. Clear green classifications and reliable data are also needed to reduce greenwashing risks and help investors assess projects more confidently. Banks are already playing a major role, with nearly 90% of domestic green capital estimated to flow through commercial banks, while some lenders offer preferential rates to businesses meeting environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria. Experts argue that Vietnam should also expand transition finance so high-emitting sectors such as steel, cement, chemicals, agriculture and transport can obtain funding to decarbonise rather than simply being excluded from green finance. Ultimately, attracting more green capital will depend not just on increasing available funds, but on building a stronger pipeline of transparent, financially viable and investable projects..
TAY NINH TAPS DAU TIENG RESERVOIR’S DUAL ROLES IN ECOTOURISM, WATER SECURITY
VietnamPlus – 8 August 2026
Tay Ninh is looking to unlock the economic potential of Dau Tieng Reservoir while protecting its crucial role in regional water security. Covering about 270 sq. km with a designed storage capacity of 1.58 billion cubic metres, the reservoir directly irrigates nearly 117,000 hectares of farmland and also supplies water for households and industry. It plays a wider environmental role by helping control flooding and saltwater intrusion while supporting downstream water quality and biodiversity. At the same time, its large water surface and surrounding landscape offer opportunities for ecotourism, sustainable aquaculture and other economic activities. Development, however, needs to be carefully managed to avoid putting additional pressure on water resources and ecosystems. Stronger environmental monitoring, pollution control and biodiversity conservation will therefore be important as Tay Ninh seeks to balance economic development with the reservoir’s long-term water security functions.
