VIETNAM STEPS UP LOW-EMISSION FARMING TO SUPPORT GREEN GROWTH

VietnamPlus – 15 July 2026

Vietnam is accelerating the shift towards low-emission farming as part of its broader green growth strategy, recognising that sustainable agriculture will be essential for maintaining export competitiveness and achieving its net-zero commitments. The Government's new roadmap promotes climate-smart production methods for major crops such as rice, coffee and fruit, while expanding systems to measure and verify emission reductions. Beyond lowering greenhouse gas emissions, the initiative aims to reduce production costs, improve farmers' incomes and open opportunities in carbon markets and premium export segments. Success, however, will depend on sustained investment in technology, financing and farmer training, together with close cooperation between government, businesses and local communities. If implemented effectively, low-emission farming could strengthen both the resilience and long-term competitiveness of Vietnam's agricultural sector.

BIDV BECOMES FIRST VIETNAMESE BANK TO JOIN GLOBAL CARBON ACCOUNTING ALLIANCE

VietnamPlus – 18 July 2026

The Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) has become the first Vietnamese bank to join the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), a global alliance that develops internationally recognised standards for measuring greenhouse gas emissions linked to lending and investment activities. Membership will enable BIDV to adopt standardised methodologies for calculating financed emissions, strengthen climate risk management and improve the quality and transparency of its emissions data. The move also supports the bank's efforts to expand green finance and transition finance products, helping customers shift towards lower-carbon business models. The milestone reflects the growing role of Vietnam's financial sector in supporting the country's net-zero commitment and aligning with international sustainability standards.

GREEN-CERTIFIED VIETNAMESE FARM PRODUCE GAINS PREMIUM IN GLOBAL MARKETS

VietnamPlus – 14 July 2026

Vietnamese farm products that meet international sustainability standards are increasingly earning premium prices, showing that green production can deliver tangible commercial benefits. Coffee certified under the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), for instance, is selling at around USD 50 per tonne above conventional products in the European market. As export destinations tighten requirements on traceability, deforestation and environmental performance, sustainability certification is becoming a source of competitive advantage rather than simply a compliance requirement. For Vietnamese producers, investing in greener farming practices and stronger traceability systems can improve market access, increase export value and strengthen the long-term competitiveness of the agricultural sector.
